Bài Tập Về Mạo Từ

Những bài tập này giúp bạn nắm vững kiến thức về mạo từ và cách sử dụng chúng.

Phần I. Lý Thuyết

1. Định nghĩa

  • Mạo từ được sử dụng trước danh từ để chỉ xem danh từ đó là xác định hay không xác định.
  • Tiếng Anh sử dụng 3 loại mạo từ: “The” (mạo từ xác định), “A/An” (mạo từ không xác định) và Mạo từ Zero (không có mạo từ).

2. Mạo từ xác định “The”
“The” được sử dụng cho cả danh từ đếm được và danh từ không đếm được.
Dùng “the” trong các trường hợp sau:

  • Vật thể hoặc nhóm vật thể duy nhất: Ví dụ: “the sun”, “the world”.
  • Khi nhắc lại đối tượng đã được đề cập trước đó: Ví dụ: “I saw an elephant. The elephant looks so cute.”
  • Danh từ được xác định bằng một cụm từ hoặc một mệnh đề trước đó: Ví dụ: “The teacher that I learnt.”
  • Khi so sánh nhất và trước các từ như “first”, “second”, “only”: Ví dụ: “The first person.”
  • Danh từ chỉ một vật riêng biệt: Ví dụ: “My mother is cooking in the kitchen.”
  • Danh từ số ít đại diện cho một nhóm động vật, loài vật hay đồ vật: Ví dụ: “The shark is one of the endangered species.”
  • Dùng trước tên riêng như: biển, sông, quần đảo, dãy núi, tên gọi số nhiều của các nước, sa mạc, miền: Ví dụ: “The Pacific (Thái Bình Dương).”
  • Dùng trước tên gọi gồm Danh từ + of + danh từ: Ví dụ: “The United States of America (Nước Mỹ).”
  • Dùng trước họ (ở dạng số nhiều) như gia đình: Ví dụ: “The Bills = Gia đình nhà Bill.”
  • Dùng trước tên của tổ chức, nhiều bang: Ví dụ: “The United Nations (Liên hợp quốc).”
  • Dùng trước tên đội hợp xướng, dàn nhạc cổ điển, ban nhạc phổ thông: Ví dụ: “The Beatles.”

3. Mạo từ không xác định – A/An

  • “A” được sử dụng trước một phụ âm hoặc từ bắt đầu bằng phụ âm.
  • “An” được sử dụng trước một nguyên âm hoặc âm /h/ câm, và cũng được sử dụng trước các từ có cách phát âm giống như nguyên âm.

Task 2: Chọn đáp án đúng để điền vào chỗ trống

  1. We are looking for a place to spend the night.
  2. Please turn off the lights when you leave the room.
  3. We are looking for people with x experience.
  4. Would you pass me the salt, please?
  5. Can you show me the way to the station?
  6. She has read an interesting book.
  7. You’ll get a shock if you touch the live wire with that screwdriver.
  8. Mr. Smith is an old customer and an honest man.
  9. The youngest boy has just started going to x school.
  10. Do you go to the prison to visit him?

Task 3: Điền a/an hoặc the

  1. This morning I bought a newspaper and a magazine. The newspaper is in my bag but I don’t know where I put the magazine.
  2. I saw an accident this morning. The car crashed into a tree. The driver of the car wasn’t hurt but the car was badly damaged.
  3. There are two cars parked outside: a blue one and a grey one. The blue one belongs to my neighbors. I don’t know who the owner of the grey one is.
  4. My friends live in an old house in a small village. There is a beautiful garden behind the house. I would like to have a garden like this.
  5. This house is very nice. Has it got a garden?

Task 4: Điền a/an hoặc the

  1. It’s a beautiful day. Let’s sit in the garden.
  2. Can you recommend a good restaurant?
  3. We had dinner in the most expensive restaurant in town.
  4. There isn’t an airport near where I live. The nearest airport is 70 miles away.
  5. “Are you going away next week?” – “No, the week after next”

Task 5: Chọn đáp án đúng

  1. I’m afraid of the dogs.
  2. Can you pass the salt?
  3. The apples are good for you.
  4. Look at the apples on that tree! They are very big.
  5. The women live longer than the men.
  6. I don’t drink the tea. I don’t like it.
  7. We had a very nice meal. The vegetables were especially good.
  8. Life is strange sometimes. Some very strange things happen.
  9. I like skiing. But I’m not good at it.
  10. Who are the people in this photograph?

Task 6: Điền mạo từ thích hợp “a/an/the hoặc x (không cần mạo từ)” vào chỗ trống

  1. Are John and Mary cousins?
    No, they aren’t cousins; they are brother and sister.
  2. The fog was so thick that we couldn’t see the side of the road. We followed the car in front of us and hoped that we were going the right way.
  3. I can’t remember the exact date of the storm, but I know it was on Sunday because everybody was at the church. On Monday, the post didn’t come because the roads were blocked by the fallen trees.
  4. Peter thinks that this is quite a cheap restaurant.
  5. A: There’s a murder here.
    B: Where’s the body?
    A: There isn’t a body.
    B: Then how do you know there’s been a murder?

  8. Bill never gets up before 9 o’clock. It’s 8.30 now, so he is still at home.
  9. If you commit a serious crime, you could be sent to prison.

Hi John,

I arrived in the USA last Monday. We left Rome, flew over the Alps and made a quick stop in London. There we went shopping in Harrods, visited the Tower and enjoyed a sunny afternoon in Hyde Park. On the following day we left for New York. The time on board wasn’t boring as there were two films to watch on the monitor. The people on the plane were all Italian. Before we landed at JFK airport, we saw the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the Empire State Building. The hotel I stayed in was on the corner of 42nd Street and 5th Avenue. I don’t like the hotels very much, but I didn’t have the time to rent an apartment.
