Khái niệm các loại câu điều kiện

Câu điều kiện là câu diễn tả một giả thiết về một sự việc hoặc một vấn đề nào đó mà sự việc hoặc vấn đề đó chỉ có thể xảy ra khi điều kiện được nói đến xảy ra.

Câu điều kiện bao gồm hai phần (hai mệnh đề), trong đó: mệnh đề nêu lên điều kiện chứa “if” là mệnh đề phụ hay còn được gọi là mệnh đề điều kiện còn mệnh đề nêu lên kết quả là mệnh đề chính.

Có 4 loại câu điều kiện:

Câu điều kiện loại 0:

Câu điều kiện loại 0 dùng để diễn tả về thói quen, một hành động thường xuyên xảy ra nếu điều kiện được đáp ứng hay nói về một sự thật hiển nhiên, một kết quả tất yếu xảy ra.

Cấu trúc:

If + S + V-inf, S + V-inf

Ví dụ:

If you often stay up late, your health will be greatly reduced.
Nếu bạn thường xuyên thức khuya, sức khỏe bạn sẽ bị giảm sút nhiều đấy.

Câu điều kiện loại 1:

Câu điều kiện loại 1 (còn được gọi là câu điều kiện có thực ở hiện tại) được dùng để diễn tả một sự việc có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai.

Cấu trúc:

If + S + V s(es), S + will / can/ may + V1 (won’t/can’t + VI)

Ví dụ:

If it rains, Jack will cancel the picnic.
Nếu trời mưa, Jack sẽ hủy chuyến đi chơi picnic.

Câu điều kiện loại 2:

Câu điều kiện loại 2 dùng để diễn tả một sự việc không thể xảy ra trong hiện tại.

Cấu trúc:

If + S + V-ed /V2, S + would / could / should + V1 (wouldn’t / couldn’t + V1)

Ví dụ:

If I spoke Korea, I would work in the United Kingdom.
Nếu tôi biết nói tiếng Hàn, tôi sẽ làm việc ở Vương quốc Anh.

Câu điều kiện loại 3:

Câu điều kiện loại 3 là câu dùng để diễn tả về một sự việc đã không thể xảy ra trong quá khứ.

Cấu trúc:

lf + S + had + V3, S + would / could / should + have + V3

Ví dụ:

If I had studied hard, I would have graduated on time.
Nếu tôi học tập thật chăm chỉ, tôi đã có thể tốt nghiệp đúng thời hạn.

1. If Alex weren’t working for an accounting firm, he would be working in a bank.
2. This ship would go faster if there were more wind.
3. If Mrs. Alexandra had come sooner, she could have eaten dinner with her parents.
4. If energy were inexpensive and unlimited, many things in the world would be different.
5. Call me and I’ll explain the homework to you.
6. A giant tree branch pierced through the roof and broke my bed, had I been in the room, I would have been killed.
7. Susan will give you a call if she needs some help tomorrow.
8. If you continue to talk loudly, Kate will have to ask you to leave.
9. I didn’t know you were asleep. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have made noise.
10. If you listened to my advice in the first place, you wouldn’t be in this mess now.

Bài 2: Chọn đáp án đúng

1. If I meet an alien from outer space, I would invite David to my home.
2. If we had more time, we would plant flowers.
3. If I had lived in the fiftieth century, I would have owned a horse and a carriage.
4. If they want to be chosen for this job, they’ll have to be experienced in the field.
5. They’re going to be late if they don’t leave right now.
6. If the doctor had arrived sooner, Liam’s son might have been saved.
7. If you just approach the job with the right attitude, things will turn out well.
8. If my candidate had won the election, I would be proud and happy now.
9. I wish Jennifer could come to the meeting this morning.
10. I could have introduced you to the man I was speaking with, but I couldn’t think of his name.
11. If you had studied, I would have lent you some money for your rent, but I’m broke myself.
12. If someone comes, smile and say, “May I help you?”.
13. Sophia: “Are we lost?”
    Jane: “I think so. I wish we had brought a map with us today”.
14. Helen: “Here’s my phone number”
    Veronica: “Thanks. I’ll give you a call if I need some help tomorrow”.

Bài 3: Viết lại câu sao cho nghĩa không đổi.

1. What would you do if you found some buried treasure?
   If you were to find some buried treasure, what would you do?

2. Working so much will make you stressed and tired.
   If you work so much, you will be stressed and tired.

3. We didn’t visit the concert because we hadn’t time.
   We would have visited the concert if we had had time.

4. Without you, I would have given up years ago.
   If it hadn’t been for you, I would have given up years ago.

5. Maria didn’t go by air only because she hadn’t enough money.
   If Maria had had enough money, she would have gone by air.

6. If by any chance you find my handbag, could you let me know?
   If you should find my handbag, could you let me know?

7. I regret not studying hard last term.
   If only I had studied hard last term.

8. Eric didn’t work hard at school, so he didn’t get a good job when he graduated.
   If Eric had worked hard at school, he would have gotten a good job when he graduated.

9. People don’t do enough exercise, so there is a lot of heart disease.
   If people did enough exercise, there wouldn’t be a lot of heart disease.

10. Cindy’s children have bad teeth because they eat too many sweets.
    Cindy’s children would have better teeth if they didn’t eat too many sweets.

Bài 4: Chia dạng đúng của động từ trong ngoặc.

1. If Danny drinks so much, he won’t drive home.
2. If we don’t hurry, we would miss the train.
3. They would go skating if the lake were frozen.
4. What would you have done, if you lost your handbag?
5. If I were like you, I wouldn’t watch such films.
6. What will happen if you go on holiday, if she hadn’t been ill?
7. If you opened your eyes, you would see a wonderful world.
8. People will live in peace if they stop fighting.
9. Would you have come, if you had had more time?
10. Phoebe wouldn’t spend so much money if he weren’t a happy person.

Bài 5: Viết lại câu sao cho nghĩa không đổi.

1. I lost Diana’s number, so I didn’t ring her up.
   If I hadn’t lost Diana’s number, I would have rung her up.

2. Emily got lost because she didn’t have a map.
   If Emily had had a map, she wouldn’t have gotten lost.

3. Amy felt sick because she ate lots of cakes.
   If Amy hadn’t eaten lots of cakes, she wouldn’t have felt sick.

4. Stop talking or you will wake the children up.
   If you keep talking, you will wake the children up.

5. Nathan is so fat because of his eating so many chips.
   If Nathan ate less chips, he wouldn’t be fat.
