Định nghĩa về mệnh đề quan hệ

Mệnh đề quan hệ (relative clause) là một loại mệnh đề trong ngữ pháp được sử dụng để bổ sung thông tin về một danh từ đứng trước nó. Mệnh đề quan hệ thường được sử dụng để mô tả hoặc xác định danh từ trong câu. Mệnh đề quan hệ sẽ bắt đầu bằng các đại từ quan hệ như “who, which, that, whom, whose” hoặc các trạng từ quan hệ như “why, where, when”.

Một số lưu ý khi làm bài tập mệnh đề quan hệ lớp 9

• Nếu xuất hiện giới từ trong mệnh đề quan hệ, thì giới từ có thể đứng trước hoặc sau mệnh đề quan hệ (chỉ dùng cho “whom” và “which”).

  • Ví dụ: The forest, in which we had a picnic, is beautiful.
  • Ví dụ: The forest, which we had a picnic in, is beautiful.

• “Which” có thể được dùng để thay thế cho cả một mệnh đề đứng trước.

  • Ví dụ: I have a car, which is very old.

• “Whom” có thể được thay thế bằng “Who” nếu đứng ở vị trí túc từ.

  • Ví dụ: I would like to talk to the woman whom / who I met at your wedding party.

• Đối với những mệnh đề quan hệ xác định, chúng ta có thể lược bỏ các đại từ làm túc từ “whom, which”.

  • Ví dụ: The English book which I am reading is interesting.
  • Ví dụ: The English book I am reading is interesting.

• Các cụm từ chỉ về số lượng “none of, both of, all of,…” có thể đứng trước “whom, which, whose”.

  • Ví dụ: I have three dogs, all of which are rescue animals.

• Không dùng “that” trong mệnh đề quan hệ không xác định.

• Không dùng “that” sau giới từ.

• Không dùng “that” sau dấu “,”.
