An IELTS process diagram question can contain a wide variety of different types of graphics. It could be a natural process such as the water cycle, a manufacturing process, or a diagram of a system. In this article, I will share with you the 5 steps to write a high-scoring process diagram essay.
Step 1 – Analyze the question
The format of every Academic Task 1 question is the same, with the instruction sentence identical in every question. All you need to do is to pick out 2 or 3 key features and write about them.
Step 2 – Identify the Main Features
The graphic in IELTS process diagram questions should not be difficult to understand. Look for the main features, which can be easily spotted with the help of titles, labels, and captions.
Step 3 – Write an Introduction
In the introduction, paraphrase the question using synonyms and a different sentence structure.
Step 4 – Write an Overview (Paragraph 2)
Give a general description of the diagram or process in the second paragraph. Use simple language and correct verb tenses.
Step 5 – Write the 1st Detail Paragraph
In paragraphs 3 and 4, explain the first key feature in more detail. Provide examples and expand on the information.
Step 6 – Write the 2nd Detail Paragraph
In the final paragraph, do the same thing for the remaining key features or stages of the process. Include relevant details and examples.
Now that you know the steps to write a successful IELTS process diagram essay, it’s time to practice and improve your skills. Remember to select only a couple of main features to write about due to the word limit.
